Saturday (Day 7) Final Day and Trip Home

Saturday we had our course exam in the morning and then, after lunch, the students had 4 free hours to snorkel in Graham’s Harbour, swim, fish or sunbathe. The snorkeling was capped by a joint ice bath courtesy of Mr. Dodds – ice bath participants Seb, Jonah and Jackson seemed to thoroughly enjoy it!

Back at base one of the local rock iguanas made an appearance. There are three on the campus and they are one of the most rare lizards in the World. Most of the San Salvador Rock Iguana are located on a protected isolated island directly off of the Gerace Centre, called Green Cay.

After showering and dressing in their finest, the group went to Columbus Tavern for a catered traditional meal of pigeon peas, Bahamian mac and chees, slaw, grouper, chicken and conch. Ms. Williams took this perfect picture of our meal.

Here’s the group ready for a night out!

On Sunday we had an uneventful travel day UNTIL we hit Chicago. Our connecting flight did arrive but, apparently, the FAA requires ALL of the tires on a plane to be in working order before the plane can leave. So we listened to the pilot educate us on lug nuts and new tires. The students were awesome travelers. Flexible. Didn’t complain about delays. We arrived at midnight about 1 hr and 15 minutes late but, more importantly, we arrived safely.

Thanks to Ms. Williams (Chaperone/Fish) and Mr. Dodds (Chaperone/Algae) and Jackson Yoder (Underwater and Still Photography) for their help to make this week a success. So long, San Salvador!
