Bahamas Marine Biology – Thursday (Day 5)

This is Sebastian, Jonah and Mitchell reporting. After three intense days of snorkeling and lecture, today we got onto the bus and headed to the Grotto Beach for some R &R. While out there we were told we have a hour and a half to do as we please on the beach. Some of us tanned in the sun while the others snorkeled off to the nearby reefs and the grotto. We saw many fish like a triggerfish, parrotfish, blue tangs, and a squirrel fish. We also saw very pretty coral reefs and overall it was a great swim. After the hour and a half was up we had a picnic lunch in an open air pavilion.

Then afterwards while walking along the beach we spotted what is most likely reef shark. We went back to the center and had some downtime.

Before dinner, we had the first part of our lecture about identifying fish. We learned about different types of fish, identifying features, anatomy of fish, and specific characteristics about how certain fish act.
